Tēnā koutou te whānau o Tuapapa,

A special welcome to our new students and whānau.

As I pen this panui the final whānau are at kura for their learning conferences.  It has been great to have so many whānau share these learning conferences.  For learning to be most successful there needs to be a strong partnership between the learner, whānau and kaiako.  If you weren’t able to come to a learning conference, please make a time to meet with your child’s teacher for a few minutes.

Whaea Jude continues to be on leave after surgery on her ankle.  Matua George thoroughly enjoyed his week teaching in Room 7.  Next week Whaea Janie will be teaching Room 7.  Learning Conferences for Room 7 and 10 will be held later in the term.  We wish Whaea Jude a speedy recovery!

This week we celebrated Support Staff week by putting on morning tea for our support staff on Tuesday.  We are very fortunate to have fantastic admin staff, grounds/gardener, and teacher aides who are all an important part of our Terrace Whanau.  We really appreciate your mahi.  Na to rourou, na taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi.  With your food basket and my food basket the people will thrive.

Today is national Pink Shirt Day in support of Bully-Free New Zealand.  Many of our senior students have been creating posters to share the bully-free message this week.  Bullying has four elements; it’s behaviour that can cause harm and is deliberate, repeated, and involves a misuse of power.  We encourage our tamariki to talk to their class teacher, duty teacher or another trusted adult if there is anthing that worries them so that any issues can be sorted quickly.  If your child is coming home concerned about something that has taken place at kura, please encourage them to talk to their teacher.  You are also most welcome to come and talk to the teacher.

Have a lovely weekend.  May the sun shine on those of you who are supporting winter sports this weekend.
