Tēnā koutou ngā mātua o te kura – Dear Parents

The Terrace School can’t provide teaching for students during the upcoming strike. The NZEI has advised The Terrace School that the commissioner, principal and teachers at our school will be taking strike action on Wednesday 15 August, 2018 from 7am to 7pm. The Commissioner has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide the normal teaching services during the strike. It’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike. The school will need to close during this strike. I know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern. Thank you for your understanding and support. Please contact Charlie if you have any queries related to this decision.

Due to there being a teacher Strike next Wednesday, the school newsletter will be sent home on Thursday the 16th of August 2018.

A HUGE thank you to all the parents who helped out with OngaOnga Sevens, it was a fantastic day with an awesome atmosphere and hard mahi.

We are looking for parents to come and volunteer in our school and teach a skill you have to our students at the 2-2:30pm break. Any skills such as knitting, sports, art, dance, music or a skill that can be used by our students would be welcome in our school. Please contact the office if you think you can help.

GREETINGS FROM OUR STAFF

My name is Sue Chant and I have been at Terrace School for seventeen and a half years. In that time, apart from 1 year, I have taught the New Entrants, Year Ones and sometimes some Year Twos.

I am passionate about the children I teach and love seeing them learn and enjoy success. I love to have fun with them and believe a good rapport is essential. Terrace School has my heart and I do feel it a real privilege to be part of this amazing school and it's wider community.

On a more personal note, I have lived in Waipukurau for nearly 31 years and have been married to Russell forever.

We have a big family and the best grandchildren in the world. In my spare time I love to garden, knit, read and find any excuse to have the family around.

I am also a mad Coronation Street fan.

Greetings from Sandy Houkamau. I trained at ChCh teachers college 1966-68 then taught for 5 - 6 years at various schools throughout NZ before resigning to stay home and raise my children.  I did various relieving around CHB before deciding to go back full time teaching in 1991 when I came to Terrace School........I spent 9 years teaching the Junior Bilingual Class ( NE- Yr 4) in Rooms 4 and 5 then transferred  to Yr 3 mainstream for approx 2 years. I then  moved to the senior syndicate where I taught Yr 6 - 8 for the next 2 - 3 years and became relieving Deputy Principal. Suffering from an overwork stress breakdown I resigned and had a break from teaching for 5 years..... I came back as a part time teacher and have been here ever since. My greatest joy is having pupils I have taught become adults and go on to bring their children back to me to teach.  Also having some of them becoming work colleagues, Olympians, IT specialists or just great role models to their children.

  REMINDERS

Buses

Please remember that there is a pay-as –you –go bus system for the Tavistock/Scallywaggs students.  It is $20 per term per child or $40 per term for families with more than two children.  These fees are now overdue at the office. Those families who have not paid will need to make alternative arrangements for their children.

SEASONS FOR GROWTH

Seasons for growth is an education programme for children who have experienced loss or grief. It aims to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of children who are dealing with a significant life change. Children learn from, and support each other in age-appropriate groups. The programme explores the impact of change and loss on everyday life, and learn new ways to respond to these changes.

For more information please contact Sally White on 021 751 814, or email gtgcentralhb@seasons.org.nz
