Tēnā koutou ngā mātua o te kura – Dear Parents

Welcome to week Six.

The Year 8 students had a lovely time at Stoney Creek Ranch .  They were entertained with buggy rides, BMX bikes, archery, target shooting and rock climbing.  We have been offered this opportunity again next year for our brand new Year 7 and Year 8 students.  They will stay overnight and have two full days of fun for $30 on the 26th and 27th of February (usually $110 but the Team at Stoney Creek enjoyed our children so much they have offered it to us at a discounted price).

A group of 38 students were honoured in assembly this morning for their progress in writing.  They should bring a certificate home to you and be proud of their achievements.

The chess tournament was also appreciated and congratulations goes to Leonydis Johnstone who won the whole thing.

Athletics went well yesterday.  It was wonderful to see the amount of effort students went to.  Thank you to Mr Cooper for all the work he put into the event.

As usual, please check the calendar of events for what is coming up.

Have a lovely week.

READING AT SCHOOL

Teachers take groups of children who have similar needs or who are at similar stages in reading, and teach them together. Children learn a lot through discussion in a group, and through working individually with a teacher.

Sometimes it’s not possible or necessary to place a child in a group-there may not be one that suits him, because he works more quickly or slowly than the other children in the room. So a teacher plans a particular programme to suit just that child. Sometimes he may work alone, at his own rate. At other times he may work with the teacher. He’s also given frequent opportunities to work with other children.
